Kim Newman stands by a school sign in the board room

Cape Central High School (CHS) teacher Kimberly Newman has been appointed to the Missouri Advisory Council for the Certification of Educators (MACCE). MACCE Members are responsible for making recommendations on the processes and standards for granting certification to teachers and administrators. More specifically, MACCE appointees help establish the criteria and procedures for evaluating teacher and school administrator education programs,  advising on the requirements of the certification of public school educators, guiding the standards for renewal of certificates for public school educators, reviewing the rules and regulations with respect to the suspension and revocation of teachers’ licenses, gathering input from various professional groups to help with the certification process in specialized areas, and giving input regarding the issuance of temporary teaching certificates.

“I feel with the teacher shortage our nation is currently facing, I can play an integral part in maintaining the integrity of the profession while attracting new and veteran teachers to the state of Missouri,” says Mrs. Newman.

Mrs. Newman is in her 26th year of teaching, all of those years serving Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS). She is currently the Family and Consumer Science teacher at CHS. She is also the District’s coordinator for the mentor/mentee program, a program that matches rookie and newer teachers to more veteran educators to serve as their mentors.

MACCE is composed of 25 members who are appointed by the State Board of Education upon the recommendation of the commissioner of education.
